Drizzt and Guen - Commission

Description

This is a Commission peice for :iconjayetta: ~Jayetta. She wanted me to do a poster sized Fanart of Drizzt Do'Urden, and his Giant black panther companion, Guenhwyvar ...

for those of you NOT familiar with the stories by R.A. Salvatore, and more particularly, the cannon artwork gracing most of the covers. ... Drizzt does wear all that, lots of black leather armor, long green cape, and the white furr ruff .... thing.... ^^; (... I swear, he makes Sephiroth look like an amature in the black leather department. :o )

Guenhwyvar, is described as a 600 lbs Magical/Astral Panther.

The coloring was ... time-consuming... with the particular challenge being to differenciate the different varieties of black leather. (supple leather, hard armor leather, belt leather, boot leather... :faint: ) and of course, both the Drow and the Panther have black skin as well. metal also uses the grey monochromatic hues, ... It was an interesting challenge to play with that much "grey" and still make it different.

I tried something a bit different with the background, it's supposed to look JUST A LITTLE cartoony, illustration-ey... whatever. Since Drizzt and Guen both have some exagerated colors and contrast, I figured the background would do well with the same.

all in all, I'm actually rather pleased with it. ^_^ I'll probably upload a pic of the backround by itself later.

Anyways, this IS an 11x17 poster sized piece.

and it will also be converted into an 8.5x11 size print as well

both sizes are available for sale. ^_^

Hello! ^_^ I love Drizzt; and the work you put into this clearly shows. Greys are really tricky, but you pulled it off quite well! <img src="e.deviantart.com/emoticons/b/bโ€ฆ" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)" />

The only thing I think you need to work on is the shadows and lighting. As it is currently, the light source seems to be from the right in the background (where the trees are) but has drifted to the left toward the foreground (note: rocks and characters).

Although it seems a little nit-picky (sorry) but I think it has a great impact on the charactersโ€™ dimensions.

All in all, if you practiced on keeping an eye on that light-source, your paintings will become even more fantastic! (You might even have fun practicing by turning off the lights save for a lamp and looking at the objects in front of it. Itโ€™s awesome how light bounces, and it could really add a great touch when implemented in your artwork!)

Keep up the great work! Anatomy, movement, and detail-wise, I think you did excellent and captured the scene well. ^_^
